The Ayurvedic Life Force Called Ojas

Ojas is the subtle energy of body and mind. The main goal of Ayurveda is to maximize Ojas to strengthen the immunity power of the body. It is the energy that activates a person.

Ayurveda is the life science for a healthy life. It guides people live a perfect healthy life. Ayurveda aims at a holistic health – perfectly healthy in body, mind and spirit. It is the perfect condition of Ayurvedic force called Ojas. Ojas is the bio-energetic bodily material that contains the Ayurvedic life force of Prana. Ojas serves the vital functions which maintain all h functions of the body’s energy system.

What is Ojas?

Ojas is the energy substance of immunity, strength and the reserved resources of body’s vitality. It is the manifestation of Prana energy. The word Ojas literally means

strength and vigor. It is the power of immunity that is in store to fight with diseases. It is the force of vitality that bridges the physical and other energetic and subtle spheres within the body. It is the substance that acts between consciousness and physical matter. Ojas is the subtle fat that invigorates the body and mind and is responsible for a person’s wellness and spiritual growth.

Association of Ojas with the elements

Ojas is associated mainly with the element of Water. It can be identified with the Yin of the Chinese Traditional Medicine (TCM). It is said to be the seat of immunity, memory and peace of mind. Contentment of heart is considered to be the function of Ojas. If Ojas is not in a balanced condition the person will not be satisfied and will be burning with desires. Contentment

and confidence of heart is the product of balanced Ojas condition.

Ojas is considered as the subtle tissue of Ayurveda

Ojas in a body is the ultimate product of all the functions of digestion and metabolism. Ayurveda says that the human body is composed of seven basic tissue elements that can be seen in the body - such as plasma, blood, muscle, fat, bone, marrow and reproductive tissues. Ojas is referred as a subtle tissue – or the eighth tissue.

Foods that contain Ojas

Ojas can be increased by taking sattvic foods such as ghee, pure milk and rice. Balanced tastes and smells found in nature can also feed Ojas.

Function of Ojas in the external body

Externally, Ojas can be seen as a sign of better health. It gives the eyes a shining glow and the body a vibrant appearance. Even in nature, we can see plants that have high level of Ojas grow well and yield highly. It is the same with the human body.

Maximizing the level of Ojas is the aim of Ayurveda. People with low Ojas look weak and sickly.
